Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 28, 2026

The short version: we collect what we need to run your wedding budget — your name and email, the budget details you add, and the people you choose to share with. When you use AI contract scanning, we read the contract to pull out the vendor and payment details, and we don't keep the contract file after that. We don't sell your information, we don't share it with advertisers, and you can cancel your subscription or delete your account whenever you want. This policy was written by our founder, a privacy attorney, in language she'd want to read herself.

Who we are and what this covers

Something Budgeted is a wedding budgeting service. This policy covers this website (somethingbudgeted.com) and the Something Budgeted apps for iPhone and Android (and, when it launches, the web app). If a practice described here applies only to the apps, it takes effect when the apps launch.

What we collect, and why

What we don't do

AI processing, plainly

Contract scanning is available on our Pro subscription and is powered by Anthropic, the maker of the Claude AI model, through Anthropic's commercial API. When you scan, the contract content is shared with Anthropic in order to extract the vendor, category, and payment details, and the results come back to you for review. Under Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service, content submitted through its commercial API is not used to train Anthropic's models, and we do not opt in to any program that would change that. To learn more about Claude and how Anthropic handles information, see Anthropic's Commercial Terms and privacy policy. We show you a notice the first time you (or anyone on your budget) uses this feature.

Who helps us run the service

These providers process data on our behalf under contractual commitments; they aren't permitted to use your information for their own marketing.

Canceling your subscription and deleting your account

Both are yours to do at any time, without emailing anyone for permission:

Cancel your subscription

Canceling stops future charges; Pro features remain active through the end of the period you've already paid for. After that, your account returns to the Free plan, and what you can do changes with it: features available only on Pro will no longer be accessible. That means shared access ends — anyone you've invited to your budget becomes view-only — and Pro features such as custom categories, custom reminders, vendor-level breakdowns, and AI contract scanning stop being available. Your underlying budget data isn't deleted when you downgrade; Pro features simply unlock again if you resubscribe.

Delete your account

Delete your account directly inside the app (Account → Delete account). Deletion removes your account, your budget, expenses, payments, attached receipts, and shared access for everyone you've invited. It is permanent — we'll ask you to confirm because there's no undo. If you can't access the app, email us and we'll delete it for you after verifying it's really you.

How long we keep information

Waitlist emails: until the launch-announcement purpose is fulfilled or you ask to be removed. Account and budget information: for as long as your account exists. Uploaded contract files: not retained — deleted after extraction. When you delete your account, we delete your personal information, except for limited records we're legally required to keep (for example, transaction records for tax purposes), which we retain only as long as the law requires.

Your rights — United States

If you live in a U.S. state with a comprehensive privacy law (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia, and others), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, and receive a portable copy of your personal information, and to opt out of "sales," "sharing," and targeted advertising. Our position is simpler than the statutes: we don't sell or share your personal information for advertising, and we don't use it for targeted advertising — so there's nothing to opt out of. We honor access, correction, and deletion requests from any U.S. resident, not just those in covered states, and we will never discriminate against you for exercising your rights. To make a request, email us; we'll verify your identity and respond within the timeframe your state's law requires.

Your rights — outside the United States

If you're in the European Union, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar protections (such as the EEA or Switzerland): we process your information on the legal bases of performing our contract with you (running your budget), your consent where we ask for it (such as the waitlist and AI scanning), and our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service. You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing. Our service is operated from the United States, so your information is transferred to and processed in the U.S.; where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers. We do not intentionally collect or process special category data (such as information about health, religious beliefs, or ethnic origin), and we ask that you not include such information in the details you add to your budget. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority, though we'd appreciate the chance to resolve any concern directly first.

Children

This service is intended for adults planning weddings. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to the service and this policy

The website and apps themselves may be modified from time to time to improve the user experience — features may be added, adjusted, or retired as the service evolves.

If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and revise the date at the top. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice before they take effect.
